Job Description

Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) covers the entire value chain from long-term research to final delivery of complete vehicles for production to the Volvo Group truck business as well as supporting the products in the aftermarket. GTT plays a vital role in contributing to the profitability, by providing competitive brand unique products that are based on common architecture and shared technology. By leveraging the combined size of the truck brands, GTT supports the Volvo Group's vision to become the world leader in sustainable transport solutions. Volvo GTT has 10.000 employees working in global teams with focus on delivering world-class engineered products and services.

Within the work to improve the overall capabilities of GTT Powertrain Engineering, we seek to improve our competence in the application of simulation tools. The vision is that by improving our ability to numerically simulate at all levels we will be far more efficient and successful in the execution of projects.

The trainee will build new models or improve existing ones, with special focus on particular alternative-cycle and alternative fuel engines. Models are calibrated with available measurement data, and they are used to select appropriate concepts by means of a multi-goal optimization (emissions, consumption, cost, etc.).
More precisely, the trainee will contribute in the following tasks:
  • Building 1D models using GT-Suite software
  • Calibration of the model to cover different engine operation modes
  • Validation of the model with available test data
  • Specification of components’ requirement versus target
  • Optimization of engine components/performance
  • Simulation / evaluation on target duty cycles
  • Analysis of results
  • Synthesis and communication towards Volvo GTT global combustion community
