Job Description

Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) is a dedicated team responsible for ensuring that Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has adequate capacity and flexibility throughout the supply chain. Our function requires developing suppliers, which includes all phases of product lifecycle, from sourcing to After Market. SDE also assists with supplier delivery crisis situations to mitigate impacts and secure deliveries to the Powertrain, Cab & Vehicle Assembly plants, Aftermarket, and support with campaign demands.
SDE North America is part of Project & Operations Purchasing and has team members in both Hagerstown, MD and Greensboro, NC.
As an SDE you will support Project and Operation purchasing teams with supply chain capacity and flexibility issues, as well as support delivery crisis’s within your area. You will provide supply chain expertise to buyers and suppliers while operating as an important link between purchasing and the plants.
Reports to Manager Supplier Development Engineer North America.

Core responsibilities:
  • Monitor the capacity and flexibility in the supply chain through capacity audits (live audits and self-assessments)
  • Manage supplier capacity issues and drive action plans to mitigate delivery and capacity risk
  • Coordinate delivery crisis management and provide supply chain expertise to solve crisis
  • Contribute to the development and the way of working within teams
  • Be a key partner of Purchasing Operations groups regarding Supply Chain related issues
  • Develop suppliers to meet the quality and demand requirements of Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA)
Essential competence and experience:
  • University degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business (or work experience equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years of supply chain and/or production experience (or similar work experience)
  • Strong supply chain and crisis management skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English, additional language is a benefit
  • Be flexible and prepared to travel with short notice. Travel may be frequent, for long durations, and include weekends and holidays
Preferred experience (but not required):
  • 7+ years of supply chain and/or production experience (or other work experience equivalent)
  • Purchasing or Supply Chain experience within the automotive industry
  • Thorough understanding of complete end-to-end supply chain covering various commodities (plastics, castings, electrical components, sheet metal, etc.)
